DAY 1: DISCOVER THE WONDERS OF MARRAKECH, AIT BENHADDOU, AND OUARZAZATE

Our 5 days desert tour begins early in the morning in Marrakech, where we will pick you up from your accommodations in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Our first destination is the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, situated in the foothills of the majestic High Atlas Mountains. As we make our way through this picturesque drive, we will stop along the way to take in the breathtaking views of the snowcapped peaks and the terrain surrounding Tizi n’Tichka pass stands at a height of 7,415 feet (2260 meters) above sea level.

Once we arrive at Ait Benhaddou, we will explore the ancient village and its popular kasbahs, which date back over 1200 years. The red-earthen settlement has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site and wandering through its passageways is an exciting experience. After lunch in the village, we will depart for Ouarzazate, where the climate becomes more desert-like and the landscape takes on a spectacular view. Ouarzazate is known for its old-world features and has been a favorite location for Hollywood filmmakers. It has served as a film set for several blockbusters and the popular TV show Game of Thrones. Our tour will include a quick stop at The Atlas Film Studios to take a look before proceeding downtown to see the picturesque kasbahs of Taourirt and Tifoultoute. In the evening, our guide will take you to your accommodations for the night.

DAY 2: EXPLORE THE BEAUTY OF TODRA GORGE AND MERZOUGA

After a delicious breakfast, we will embark on a picturesque road trip to the Todra Gorge. En route, we will pass through charming towns such as Boumalne Dades and Kalaat M’Gouna. Upon arriving at the Todra Gorge, you will be awed by the breathtaking canyons that tower 1,312 ft (400 m) high. You will have the opportunity to explore the area, including the oases that line the valley.

A thrilling hike through the Todra River Gorge on foot awaits you. Following lunch, we will head towards Merzouga, where you will enjoy one of the best desert camel rides in Morocco. The hour and a half ride will take you up the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi, where you will experience an incredible sunset over the desert. Spend the night in a Berber nomad camp where you will be treated to local cuisine and entertained by traditional Berber music and dance around the campfire before retiring for the night.

DAY 3: FROM MERZOUGA TO KHAMLIA AND RISSANI

Our morning will commence early with a mesmerizing experience of witnessing the sunrise over the dunes of the Sahara Desert – a sight that is a rare treat in Morocco. Following this, we will make our way back to Merzouga with a camel ride, and then embark on a more immersive journey into the desert with our driver in a 4×4 off-road vehicle. We will head towards the charming villages of Hassilabied and Khamlia, passing by nomads living in the desert and enjoying live Gnawa music by the local tribes. We will then venture deeper into the desert to Lake Dayte Sarje, an oasis amidst the dunes, where we will get a chance to visit black volcanic rocks. In the afternoon, we will explore the bustling commercial town of Rissani, renowned for its vibrant souks. Our day will conclude with an evening drive back to Merzouga.

DAY 4: DISCOVER THE CITY OF MIDELT

On the fourth day of our Moroccan desert tour, we will embark on a scenic road trip from Merzouga to Fes, passing through some major towns such as Erfoud, Aoufous, and Errachidia. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to stop and take in the beautiful scenery of the Ziz Valley and interact with locals, including the Berbers. One of the must-see places on our way to Midelt is the oasis of Aoufous, which is known for its beautiful palm groves and picturesque landscapes. By lunchtime, we should arrive at Midelt, where we will have the chance to try some of the delicious local cuisine for lunch.

In the afternoon, we will explore the small town of Midelt, which has some fascinating attractions to offer despite its size. Our itinerary will include visits to Aguelmous, a charming Berber village known for its traditional architecture, the Eglise de Midelt, a historic church dating back to the French colonial era, Notre Dame de l’Atlas monastery, a peaceful and serene place of worship, and the spectacular Gorges d’Aouli, a breathtaking natural wonder carved by the Aouli River. As the evening approaches, we will enjoy the stunning view of the sunset, a perfect opportunity for capturing some beautiful photos of the landscape. Our knowledgeable guide will then take us back to our accommodations for the night, where we can rest and prepare for the next day’s adventure.

DAY 5: DISCOVER THE BEAUTY OF AZROU, IFRANE, AND FES

On our final day, we will enjoy breakfast before embarking on the last leg of our journey. As we travel through the charming towns of Zaida and Timahdite, we will make a stop at a popular cedar forest near Azrou, where you can encounter the friendly Barbary macaque monkeys. Our next destination is Ifrane, also known as the ‘Moroccan Switzerland’ for its reputation as one of the cleanest cities in the world. As soon as we enter Ifrane, you will notice a significant change in the environment.

The city was established in 1928 by the French, but the first permanent settlement dates back to the 16th century, located four miles (7 km) from present-day Ifrane and consisting of cave dwellings. Only in recent decades have houses been built above ground, giving Ifrane a modern appearance more akin to Europe than Africa. The architecture and urban structure are strikingly different, and the climate is rather cool with snowy winters and moderate summers. While in Ifrane, we will visit the famous stone lion monument, a sculpture dating back to around 1936. We will then make our way to Fes, where our guide will drop you off at your hotel, bringing our 5 days tour to a close.
